Digital measurement

Digital encoder systems make the rotor position available as an absolute value through various interfaces (e.g. EnDat, Hiperface).

For correct commutation in synchronous motors, the encoder must be tuned after mounting to the motor shaft. For encoders with encoder memory, the commutation offset determined during encoder tuning is stored in the encoder. If the position of the encoder in relation to the motor shaft changes (e.g. with encoder replacement), the commutation offset must be newly determined, or the motor will not be controllable. AMK motors with absolute value encoder and encoder storage are tuned at the factory and shipped with a valid commutation offset.
